The New England Patriots are in the East Division of the American Football Conference in the NFL. They are based in the Greater Boston area and play their home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The Patriots were one of the original American Football League (AFL) teams, and joined the NFL in 1970 in the merger of the two leagues. The Patriots have become one of the most successful franchises in the NFL and are third in number of Super Bowl appearances with seven (Pittsburgh and Dallas both have 8). Between 2001 and 2010 they set a record for the most number of wins in a decade with 121.
